The place we call home.
The Mechanicstown Fire Department operates out of two firehouses, strategically located on opposite sides of the district.
Station 1 is the main operating location of the department, and is home to 27 Control. First-due apparatus are always ready to respond from this location, and it provides a comfortable environment for our members to train, relax, and stand ready to serve. Typically stationed here is:
-Fire Police 124
-Fire Police 116
Station 1 also features:
-Membership room with couches and a flat screen TV
-Soda on tap
-Meeting room with lectern and powerpoint capabilities
-Bunk room for scheduled overnight crews
Station 1 is also home to the MECFD overnight shift program. While volunteer fire agencies are rarely, if ever, shift based, MECFD allows firefighters to work on shifts overnight. Overnight firefighters are responsible for upkeep of the station, keeping the apparatus clean and ready to respond, as well as answering calls. MECFD is proud to have one of the fastest overnight responses of any fire department in Orange County. Click HERE to see our overnight crews.
Station 2 is home to MECFD's Rescue 117 and Engine 118. Additionally, it serves as the department's dedicated training facility.
Station 2 features:
-Forcible entry simulator
-Roof ventilation simulator
-Floor collapse simulator
-Live fire simulator
-RC car track
-Back yard for social functions
In late 2011, The Mechanicstown Fire Department completed construction of 27 Control, the station's in-house dispatch center, and the only firehouse console center of it's kind within Orange County. It allows the department to operate independent from the county dispatch center if necessary. 27 Control has seating and consoles for two dispatchers, and one call-taker. 27 Control offers a fantastic view of the bay floor, as it was constructed on a loft.
But thats not all 27 control is capable of. During hurricane Irene, the Mechanicstown Fire Department was responsible for the dispatching of all Battalion one fire departments, as well as the Town of Wallkill Ambulance Corps.
The department continuously ensures that select members are trained in the operation of the console, and most members can fill a seat if necessary.
27 Control is located at Mechanicstown FD Station 1.
